John McGinty was a Bogside boy from Derry, Irish through and through. To escape poverty and unemployment he became a soldier with the Irish Fusiliers. In the Army he found a home away from home, comradeship and friends for a lifetime.
As a desert soldier in Egypt or a jungle fighter in the Khasi Hills of India, he survived because of his tough Bogsde upbringing. Nonetheless, the Bogside boy could not remain a boy forever. His story is one of a struggle to manhood and becoming a leader of men. In Singapore he encounters the beautiful Ah Lam, who would have him stay and make a home among those precious islands.
In Malta, with war looming, he falls in love with Lieutenant Commander Jackie Eccleston. Through love and war he battles through to face death itself on the ravaged beaches of Dunkirk. Only his Derry spirit sees him through the best and the worst of times. This is a story of Love and war, heartbreak and triumph.
